Day 2 - Oil Sketch "After Breakfast"

Day two of the Strada 31 paint challenge for January.  This is an oil sketch on prepared paper.  Using limited palettes chosen at random also.  This particular one is Winsor Red Deep, Winsor Yellow and Old Holland Scheveningen Blue Deep.  The prepared paper is watercolor paper with a warm granular wash on it with shellac over that to protect the paper. So I'm starting on a middle-ish value, not white.  #stradaeasel

Strada 31 Day Painting Challenge Day 1

I'm doing the Strada Easel 31Day painting challenge. Besides painting and drawing, my purpose is also to have 31 small oil sketches to use as card fronts for stationary. :) So this is Day 1 - January 1st, 2017. Happy New Year!!! #stradaeasel And thank you Strada and Haley!

Kula Cattle Sketch

Was really drawn by the juxtaposition of the warmth of these common cattle against the forever-ness of the exquisite and uncommon blue ocean.  Painting to come -

Flags in front of Polli's restaurant during the Fourth of July parade.  They just made me feel so good - all those huge flags dancing in the wind.  Nonchalant- and I feel taken for granted.  So beautiful!

Back to the paint after some much needed family time.

Cube Scape -

One of my Cube Scapes.  I did this drawing some time ago, bur recently scanned it into my computer, sent it to my iPad and have had fun with it in the Procreate App.

I have another project (more long-term), I've been working on in Procreate that I'll begin to put up shortly - a really fun one.  I've had to be more mobile than usual lately so I'm using my iPad to create.  Really loving it and discovering interesting possibilities with layers etc...

Getting to paint with real oils a bit and looking forward to painting a great deal more in the near future.

I've also been doing some research into drawing apps lately and while my investigation has only been very cursory thus far, I can tell you that the Procreate app is just miles ahead of anything I've experienced.  If you're considering a drawing app for iPad - can't recommend Procreate enough!  It's also super easy to use in conjunction with other apps.

Clouds and Sacred Garden for 30 in 30

A couple of studies for the 30 in 30 challenge.  Really needed some color today - so headed to sacred garden to work.  New palette.  Have a relatively new tube of Rembrandt Peony Red that I just love, but have never worked with - so Peony red, cad yellow, ultra blue and oxide red.

'Ohelo 'Ai Study

 

A couple of studies for a project and painting I'm working on.  The painting is a very different treatment than the studies and much looser.  My main criteria is "fun"!  Will post the painting when pao.
